Mouse traps are the best answer. We just went through that at work and they tried everything, but the old fashioned mouse traps were the ones that did it.
Mice have been known to chew on steel and electrical wires.
You could try putting a moth ball in the hole (they hate that smell) and then sealing the hole with that spray foam that hardens and seals holes/cracks. You can by it at Walmart or Target. :)
