Housing pregnant mice together?

What is your opinion on housing female mice that are about to give birth (and after the birth) together? Are there any benefits or downfalls?

Please, serious answers only, from people who know what they're talking about. You're only wasting your time posting nonsense.Housing pregnant mice together?
I se you have two different answers here. I will help you sort it out: Your mice will be fine being housed together IF their home is big enough. If the cage is smallish (or just smaller then THEY want it to be) they will fight, or cannibalize the babies, because they wont think they can survive in a small space.

Basically, it depends on the mouses preference. You can try it, but have another enclosure available, just in case you need to move someone at the last minute.Housing pregnant mice together?
no downfalls.

my two pregnant females lived together.

its actually really good because they build their nests together.

they don't go aggressive towards each other or anything.

and when the babies are born, they help each other out and treat all the babies like their own.

all female mice have like, a motherly streak in them. they just love looking after babies lolz.

it will be fine if you house them together. my females both ended up giving birth the healthy, gorgeous babies!
I agree with the commenter who said it all depends on the size of the cage. If the mother mice feel that there is a enough resources to go around they will live peacefully together. If they feel there babies will be shortchanged they will attack each other. Keep them in a decent size enclosure with enough good food, clean water and soft bedding. If you do this you'll be fine.
Well, my sisters mice faught each other whice pg. Then a few days after the babies were born the mom mouse ate the babies. I would call a vet first thing Monday and ask them. One vet told my sister if she would have had a salt lick in with them, that may have prevented the attack. So, like I said, please call a vet asap and ask them. Good luck.
if they are getting along now its all good. they will share the parental responsibilities and nurse each others babies.

Why is the Book ';Of Men and Mice'; by John Steinbeck banned from some libraries?

Of Mice and Men has been banned from various American public and school libraries or curricula for allegedly ';promoting euthanasia';, being ';anti-business';, containing profanity, racial slurs, and generally containing ';vulgar'; and ';offensive language';. Many of the bans and restrictions have been lifted and it remains required reading in many other American, Australian, British, New Zealand and Canadian high schools, perhaps in part to bring awareness to these societal errors in which Steinbeck aims to bring into light. As a result of being a frequent target of censors, Of Mice and Men appears on the American Library Association's list of the Most Challenged Books of 21st Century (number 4).

Why is the Book ';Of Men and Mice'; by John Steinbeck banned from some libraries?
It portrays Women, the Handicapped, African Americans, the church in less than favorable lights, however it captures Steinbeck's Depression era mentality to a tee. We can't whitewash the past, or we are doomed to repeat it. We need to discuss what is wrong about the stereotypes in the book in open forum, so it is understood this is not feasible in this day and age to portray these characters in current situations, but are locked into this less than favorable era. Steinbeck did not pull any punches in this book, he laid it out as it actually was, take it or leave it, accurate for details of the day. Profanity is also used quite a bit, but it is a great piece of literature for the era, in fact it would be hard to find better, even with the ';Grapes of Wrath'; included. Why is the Book ';Of Men and Mice'; by John Steinbeck banned from some libraries?
No library I know bans any books. (Isn't it Of Mice and Men?)

If you know one that does, ask them why.

If this is hypothetical: maybe because there is some mayhem and murder in the book? because some people don't like to be reminded that folks are individuals, no matter what? because some don't like a man being compared to a mouse? because some don't like the style?

ADD: It may be out of the 'youth' section, but it should be at a library, no matter what the content sparking controversy may be.

It's a good book and one often found on high school required-reading lists.
Possibly because *SPOILER* at the end George shoots Lennie because Lennie accidentally (he is retarded and doesn't understand ettiquette and social customs) breaks a character's wife's neck. The husband, who has hated Lennie from day one, uses this as an excuse to get his gun. So George shoots Lennie so he doesn't have to suffer.
';Of Mice and Men'; was banned from some libraries because it deals with issues such as retardation and sexual assault that some people believe kids should not be allowed to read about.
It was banned because it deals with sexual assault on a minor.
I hate giving links as answers, but it'll give you a better idea than a quick sum up I would type:
it is on the ala most challenged books list

What to look for when buying pet mice?

It's best to adopt from a good breeder or small animal rescue, if possible. If there aren't any near you, a pet store that doesn't house a large number of mice together could be good place to find healthy pets.

Ask to handle the mice before making your decision, if possible. Definately look for bright, clear eyes, an alert, curious disposition %26amp; a healthy-looking coat. A thin mouse is likely to be ill or weak. Make sure there is no evidence of loose droppings in their environment %26amp; that it seems well-maintained.

Ask questions, including the approximate ages of the mice. If they're not already socialized, the best age to adopt is between 6-10 weeks which is a pretty short window. If they're used to being handled their age is less important. You can also adopt older mice if you don't mind the possibility that they might never become calm enough to hold.

We've had the best experiences with mice who had been kept in small groups. While we've adopted some sweet, healthy mice from feeder bins we've also had some heartbreaking experiences.

When we're looking to adopt mice, we're especially impressed by the ones who show interest in us %26amp; come to the front of their enclosure to say Hi. We're also drawn to active individuals, so anyone in the wheel or climbing up the water bottle is considered for adoption.

As you may know, girl mice usually get along great in pairs or small groups (we usually adopt trios), but boys must be raised together or they'll fight. What to look for when buying pet mice?
Try this website: petfinder.com, they will give you a list of animals at local shelter if you put in your area. You should think about adoption first and then a breeder. Although there can be problems with buying from pet stores, you can also get a healthy animal. Here's what you should look for while getting a mouse anywhere:

-clear bright eyes

-playful and curious

-shiny short healthy looking coat

-no bumps, cuts,or bruises

-it is walking around easily and freely without limping

also, make sure the enviorment is clean ( bedding is not soiled, food is in clean bowl, plenty of water in clean feeder) Ask someone ( shelter volunteer/ pet store employee/ or your breeder) if you can hold a few of the mice. Look for one that is comfortable in your hand, they will be scared, because your a new person and they won't be used to you. good luck!!What to look for when buying pet mice?
Well, when I am looking for mice I like to look for small white ones with red eyes. They are so cute and I have such a soft spot in my heart for them!!! I really like it when I bring them home and then I reenact the battle from Lord of the Rings, with my snake being Legolas and the pack of rats being the evil orcs.

Legolas for life!!
just ask the pet person for help they have more experience.

Does mice affect people with asthma?

I found 2 mouses at my house. I have 3 small children with asthma, I dont want to use poison. What can I do to get rid of the problem?Does mice affect people with asthma?
You can get a live trap at the hardware store. Then take the little guys for a ride in the country. Explain to the kids, that your just taking the mice home. Pack a lunch and make a day of it. Some

times we adults do things that are necessary, and the kids get

very upset. We don't even know about it until they are 20, and they are telling the mouse story over Thanksgiving dinner.Does mice affect people with asthma?
Mouse-trap, as for the asthma, do not smoke in the house (that's if you are a smoker) if the children's bedroom has a carpet then vacuum every day, or better still change to a wood or laminate floor. Fresh air and ventilation in the house but try not to create a draught as this will give them a cold.
Mice carry HANTA VIRUS. It is an airborn (usually fatal) virus that you get from their droppings. If you have mice, you have droppings, too. Use sticky-traps. I know....it's gross, but no poison and the kids can't get their fingers hurt, either.
Only if you eat them with the skins still on.

All varieties of pet mouse are the same species and not seperated into different breeds, just varieties. You can find species pictures of different kinds of mouse at centralpets.com under mammals and rodents.

If you are looking for personal experiences with different breeds I guess I have. Where I bu=ought my mice they had all different ';breeds'; there, but they did not even seperate them. I had a short straight haired, a silky satin like haired and a wavy haired. They all act the same and I prefer the wavy haired because they looked teddy bear like. The satin haird was the prettiest though.
Just Google ';mice breeds';. I just did and it gives you a bunch of information.

Cat food manufacturers want to please the human pet owners. Mice are commonly known to carry lots of diseases and therefore have an ewww factor that would not impress people as being best for their cat.
Ha ha its because scientists haven't found out how to put the whole entire delicious taste of mouse in one packed sized kibble ^^
That is an excellent question! Cats love to eat mice more than chickens and cows or even salmon! :) How gross would that be for us cat owners though? Ewwww...chopped up mice.

SparkNotes are the best guides to use for GCSE.

    Wikipedia could help as well.

I wish I could help more, but its a somewhats vauge question. Juts read SparkNotes %26amp; that should help you write a damn good essay on it.

    Here's a brief plot summary, directly from Wikipedia;

Two migrant workers in California during the Great Depression 鈥?George Milton: average in stature, intelligent, and cynical, but caring; and Lennie Small: physically strong, but a mentally limited man 鈥?come to a ranch in Soledad, California to ';work up a stake';. They hope one day to fulfill their shared dream of settling down on their own piece of land. Lennie's part of the dream, which he never tires of hearing George describe, is merely to have soft rabbits on the farm, which he can pet. George protects Lennie from himself by telling him that if he gets into trouble he won't let him ';tend them rabbits';: they are fleeing from their previous employment in Weed; the childlike Lennie was run out of town, with George accompanying him, because Lennie's love of stroking soft things resulted in an accusation of attempted rape when he touched a young woman's dress.

At the ranch, the dream appears to become possible. Candy, the aged, one-handed ranch-hand, even offers to pitch in with Lennie and George so they can buy the farm by the end of the month. The dream crashes when Lennie accidentally kills the young and attractive wife of Curley, the ranch owner's son, while trying to stroke her hair. A lynch mob led by Curley gathers. George, realizing he is doomed to a life of loneliness and despair like the rest of the migrant workers, and wanting to spare Lennie a painful death at the hands of the vengeful and violent Curley, shoots Lennie in the back of the head before the mob can find him. The shot comes while Lennie is distracted by one last retelling of the dream.

I read Of Mice %26amp; Men when I was doing English GCSE, %26amp; I found SparkNotes to be the best to use.

EDIT: Although, I would suggest reading it. SparkNotes is merely a stepping stone, the difference between a grade...

ps. Don't rely on Wikipedia heavily, you never know who wrote it. It's all opinion.
You are gonna have to read the book yourself to benefit.

    from http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/article.鈥?/a>

Here are some other facts about the death penalty, with sources below:

127 people on death rows released with proof that they were wrongfully convicted. DNA, available in less than 10% of all homicides, can鈥檛 guarantee we won鈥檛 execute innocent people.

The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?

The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reliable study shows the death penalty deters others. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in those that don鈥檛.

We have a good alternative, life without parole, on the books in 48 states. It means what it says. Life without parole costs less than the death penalty.

The death penalty is much more expensive than life in prison, mostly because of the upfront costs (before and during the initial trial) of legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people.

The death penalty doesn't necessarily help families of murder victims. Murder victim family members have testified that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.

Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. Speed up the process and we will execute innocent people.

Should you feed rats or mice to snakes?

I read that rats are alot more nutricious and better for snakes. well i have a colombian red tail boa and a ball python well please let me know thanks!!Should you feed rats or mice to snakes?
Either a mouse or a rat would be nutritious for your snake. It doesn't matter which one you feed it because they both are very nutritious for your snakes, but some day you will need to feed your snakes rats because mice will be too small for them too eat and will not give the snake all the nutrients it needs. A snakes main diet is eating rodents, so either a mouse or a rat would be nutritious, but some day you will need to switch your snakes over to rats because they will be too large to only have a mouse.Should you feed rats or mice to snakes?
Yes, feed your snake mice or rats, that's fine. Buying pre-killed, frozen rodents at a pet store is the smartest decision, because the rodents cannot harm your snake like the live feeds can.

I can't imagine that one rodent is more ';nutritious'; than the others, and the difference between feeding your snake rats or mice is all based on the size. Like it's been said before, don't feed your snake anything bigger than the widest part of its body, otherwise it will regurgitate and will probably be shy about eating for a while.
I also have red tailed boas and ball pythons and have had them for many years. I much prefer rats over mice. I breed my own at home and rats are WAY less smelly and rat pups that are a few weeks old are usually what I give to the ball pythons. I let them get a bit bigger before I feed to the boas.
As far as nutrition goes, Mice and Rats are equivalent. It depends on the size of the snake (as others have said) and what they will eat. Some snakes are picky eaters. Some people also feed gerbils, hamsters, or African soft furred rats.
You should feed them mice, not rats.

Rats can actually kill them, it happened to my friend's snake.

Something happened where the rat bit the snake and i don't remember how it died exactly but it was caused by the rat bite.
You can feed either to your snake. It all depends on how big your snake is or whatever your snake prefer. Sometimes the prefer rats over mice. You should feed your snake a mouse or rat the same size as the biggest part of your snakes body.
I think the only factor in whether you feed your snake rats or mice has to do with the size of the snake and or how often you want to feed the snake.
I would feed them only a few rats and mice every few monthes. Mabye a rat and 3 mice every month? I'm not sure, I don't know anything about snakes. I think you should just use rats and mice for snacks
rats is what i prefer but ask the local pet store where you get your live feed, it may depend on the species.

what kind of answer is yes?
It all depends on the size of your snake. bigger snakes like boas or pythons should eat rats, and smaller snakes like garden or milk snakes should eat mice.
Yea i would stick with rats but if mice are cheaper then go for them if u feel like it u kno ur snake better than anyone choose what he likes best which one will he lunge at and which will he eventually eat
Well, snakes live off of rats and other animals in the wild. So yes, it should be fine to feed some to them.

A question about Of Mice and Men?

Ive got homework to do and im not really sure what the question is telling me to do.

The question is: There are some intresting minor characters created by John Steinbeck. Choose two minor characters and explain their significance to the text as a whole.

I have chosen Crooks and Candy but what does the rest of the question mean?A question about Of Mice and Men?
You've definitely chosen the two best ones, I did my GCSEs last year and I had almost that exact same question.

There are several key themes in the novel, friendship, loneliness and isolation, failed dreams and prejudice.

Candy ties in with all of these. The oldest of all the characters, he views himself in the light that all his co-workers do. Being so disabled after his accident he knows that he is kept on only out of duty, and that may all change. You can see his happiness and excitement at the prospect of living with Lennie and George, as it would be the first time that he, like many of the other itinerant workers, would have had a true home since childhood. he is crucial to the novel in this sense because it is his dream that dies along with Lennie. His desperation is seen when he looks to George for reassurance, desperate to be told that they can still buy the little house.

Candy experiences prejudice. He is left, along with the other outcasts of society, when the men go to the brothels and bars in the town. The cripple, the retard, the woman and the black man represent many Americans living in the Great Depression, but they, above everyone, have the hardest time. This is ket to the novel, becasue in the end everyone ends up as helpless and pathetic as each other.

Crooks is perhaps an even more extreme case of this. He has the worst deal of them all, simply because he is black. Steinbeck presents as highly intelligent; his room is piled with books and, ironically, a battered copy of the California civil rights code. This is a prime example of failed dreams; Crooks expected a new life, but despite being treated like an animal, sleeping away from the white men, he holds on to the thought that they are, technically, equal.

Another instance in which you see Crooks being key is when he is with Lennie in his room. He objects in vain to him coming in, but clearly enjoys human company. However he quickly turns on Lennie, taunting him that George will not come home. This is shocking to see, as Crooks is a character who hase experiences all kinds of cruelty, yet here he is tormenting someone who simply doesn't understand. It is this cut-throat desperation that makes Of Mice and Men so tragic and so real. Each pathetic small character desperately tries to pick on someone weaker than them, Candy to Curley's Wife, CW to Crooks and Crooks to Lennie. None of them unite in their loneliness,

I hope that helps, it was a bit of an essay...It really is a great book, I found that it was the only book that wasn't ruined by analysing again and again.

    Good luck!

A question about Of Mice and Men?
how do they contribute to the texts as a whole... basically the themes of the text. Crooks is black right? so you need to talk about the theme of prejudice and race, and how he is not equal to the others because of his race. just like Lennie isnt equal to the others because of his retardation (belittled by his friend.. george? always told what to do.)

candy is old and also not equal, he cannot do most things everyone else can and this is established when the flirty woman says ,';left all the weak ones in here.'; Candy also supports the theme of if something is useless and old (like he's dog) then it should be killed.

which is eventually what happens to lennie
Just explain what impact they bring to the story I forgot the story completely as it's years since I learnt it but if any of the characters have anything related to death just explain that it hints to the ending I did that and got an A*!

If you are stuck ask your teacher :)
It means choose two small characters and show the impact they have the story overall. Like Candy getting fired, no friends, etc.
    Ask a teacher :P

Unless it's an open-book exam, of course, but very few exam boards have those.

If i have a mice problem, will throwing away all my food make them leave?

The only way to get rid of mice is to get a cat.

Some of my friends have mice because they have dogs.

Mice are disgusting. They eat your foods and leave their disgusting droppings everywhere (in my friends' house)

Get a cat. They're wonderful. Cheap, cute, soft, warm, low maintenance and clean and they will teach you a thing or two about taking it easy and relaxing. (and they last 15 to 20 years or more).

I never had a mouse in my house. If i have a mice problem, will throwing away all my food make them leave?
Best bet is to try sealing their entrances with copper wool (they can chew through just about anything else you could stuff in there, including steel wool). If i have a mice problem, will throwing away all my food make them leave?
nope! it won't better make your place clean..
No. Mice look for places to nest and it doesn't necessarily happen to be the place where there is plenty of food.

But I do have a less-nasty solution to catch mice. Put the mouse trap in a brown paper bag. When the mouse is caught, just throw away the bag.
Let a python go in your roof space, that keeps the mice away
No, you will probably have to get an exterminater. They don't just eat your food, they eat other stuff too.
That won't be necessary if you store food in locations not accessible to mice, and clean up any crumbs or food residue lying around on floors, tables, counter tops, stovetop, etc.
No, not throwing away your food will make them go away. Make sure you don't have crumbs and open containers around..Clean the place up, if you haven't already. Get a cat.
Glue traps are the best method to trap rats and mice.
No throwing away your food will not get rid of them you need a good poison and they will not return make sure no other animals can get near the poison as this could be fatal to all animals If you throw your food out you will starve ha ha . good luck
Nope. Clean your home and if you can have a pet CAT that would do the trick. Dispose your excess food properly and dump everything that is not in use.
    nope sorry
Heck no, they can live on food as small as a grain of salt. The only way to get rid of them is a professional and even then its hard. But I had a couple cats around if they can smell cats they usually leave.Lotsa luck
I wouldn't throw out your food, maybe store it better!Set traps, and poison under your appliances and furniture!!
Get a couple of cats, that should take care of the problem, cats love mice, but mice hate cats.
Try putting your food in plastic tubs, something thick enough that mice can't chew through it. Make sure your don't have any crumbs or food laying around, including dirty dishes. Set traps under furniture and appliances, that's where mice hide. Making sure that you have all your food cleaned up will leave no other options to the mice except the food in the traps, so if your food is cleaned up the mice will be more likely to get caught in the traps. Get some cats too. Females are better mousers.
nope-you need to store your food in containers that are metal/glass/thick plastic and put it places they have trouble reaching. fill any holed and cracks around your pantrys/cupboards you can. and then place some mouse traps. the snap traps are cruel but they work the best, the glue traps are actually worse because they leave the mice alive, and alot of the humane/no kill traps the mice can actually get back out of.

unless you have a really bad infestation (in which case i would say get a cat) they will be gone in about a week.
Nope, usa an old fashion mouse trap but instead of cheese, use peanut butter.
Making sure they don't have access to any food. Place bread, cereal and the like in the fridge or in a container that they can't break into such as metal. Make sure they can't get to your garbage or any pet food, too. And clean all dishes. But they can survive on crumbs. So, the best thing to do is after you do all this then set traps for them. They will readily go for the bait if they can't find other foods easily. Check the traps daily because nothing smells worse than a dead rodent.

Why doesn't the the view box on AOE II stay still? I've already tried 2 different mice. Can anyone help me?

I'm trying to play Age of Empires 2 and everytime i start to play the screen always moves by itself. I've tried 2 types of mice (the usb kind and ps2 port) but it still does it so i don't think it's a mouse problem. I don't know what 2 do. Any suggestions. Why doesn't the the view box on AOE II stay still? I've already tried 2 different mice. Can anyone help me?
I don't think it's your mouse or keyboard, but there are a few known issues with Age of Empires 2(first source).

I think that your video card's drivers may be out-of-date. Contact your manufacturer about updating them.

You might also want to try tapping the directional key that corresponds to the direction your view screen keeps scrolling in, there's been reports of that being a temporary fix and it may be due to having not enough RAM to function on. Try shutting down anything running in the background.

If neither of those solutions work, I recommend contacting the creators of Age of Empires about your problem. I hope the sources below can be helpful.

How do i keep mice cool in the summer and warm in the winter in my room with out an air cone?

step 1.put a soda bottle full of water in the freezer. over night let it freez. step 2. then the next day put it in there cage. step 3. let thm see and feel its coldness then the might lay next to it and keep cool. How do i keep mice cool in the summer and warm in the winter in my room with out an air cone?
Make sure they have plenty of water in the summer, and keep the drapes closed during the day to keep out the sun, but the windows open at night to bring in the cool air. Set up a oscilating fan in the room that doesn't blow directly on them but circulates the air in the room.

In the winter, keep the windows closed and the drapes closed to lock in the heat. You may want to place a small electric heater in the room on a thermostat setting to keep them warm. But never leave the heater on when you are not home to avoid a fire. How do i keep mice cool in the summer and warm in the winter in my room with out an air cone?
When you have severe heat problems you can go as far as to get a sheet wet, wring it out and hang it in front of the cage(s). Have box fans blowing behind the sheet in order to help circulate the cooling air that radiates from the wet sheet.
well i put ice cubes in the summer maybe with a treat in the middle and in winter u just add more bedding [cotton wool] for them to keep warm and a blanket over their Cage at night to keep the heat in more kk

    Disease from domesticating field mice?

Hello, i caught a baby field mouse in the chicken coupe. There were like 30 running everywhere and i caught one. it has fur, can open its eyes and run fast. I am trying to domesticate the little guy but i have to wonder. Howcan i prevent myself from getting some disease from it?Disease from domesticating field mice?
Unless you're in the Southwest where hantavirus is endemic, he's probably pretty safe. Might get fleas. May not be quite as young as you think. Field mice are pretty small as adults, a lot smaller than the house variety. But he's not likely to get too domestic. Wild species have highly developed hyperalertness that's been bred out of domesticated types.

They eat rodents, and mice are their natural food. No fish.

I once read a book about a pair of mice who were the only survivors after all other life on earth was destroye

The mice began to breed and wanted to model their society on the way humans had lived their lives. All they had to guide them were copies of the New York Times. Soon they began to experience the same social problems that we as humans experience. The rest of the book is a hilarious account of how they try to deal with these problems. The book is in essence a satire on human society.

I would appreciate it if anybody could tell me what the title of the book is , and author's name - and if possible where i may obtain a copy of the book.I once read a book about a pair of mice who were the only survivors after all other life on earth was destroye

All varieties of pet mouse are the same species and not seperated into different breeds, just varieties. You can find species pictures of different kinds of mouse at centralpets.com under mammals and rodents.

You can find variety pictures under the roman numeral here http://hiiret.fi/eng/breeding/varieties/鈥?/a>Can you tell my some breeds of mice?
If you are looking for personal experiences with different breeds I guess I have. Where I bu=ought my mice they had all different ';breeds'; there, but they did not even seperate them. I had a short straight haired, a silky satin like haired and a wavy haired. They all act the same and I prefer the wavy haired because they looked teddy bear like. The satin haird was the prettiest though.

Sprickle a small amount into the bottom of the bottle, lay alot of these around your garden near to the wall of your house or Bungalow, hidden away from children %26amp; animals. This DOES work

Get an onion peel it cut it in half, place a half raw onion in every corner of every room, Good Luck
We had problems with mice when we moved into a brand new house - obviously the building work disturbed them. We even had them chewing through wires in the fuse box. This was discovered when we completely lost all power and we called an emergency electrician who discovered several fried mice in there. Our local council pest control put traps down but told us to put chocolate in them rather than cheese as they prefer chocolate - (dont know how they know - its not as if they can tellus lol). My husband tried to find out where they were getting in and blocked up any holes. We took off the plinths from under our kitchen units and found loads and loads of holes. To be honest they can get iin anywhere but if you;'ve tried everything then you'd be best to contact the council pest control. Good luck.

Are dogs good at catching and killing mice?

Rat terriers are good but dachshunds are fantastic small critter slayers. Follow the posters advise about not letting your dog eat the mice. My poor neighbors dachshund Lenard, died from eating a poisoned mouse. Poor doggy. Are dogs good at catching and killing mice?
if they have the talent for that they can,my dog can catch and kill rats and mice!he is a mixed breed of golden retriever and mongrel,he is more alert than our cat.if we told him there's a rat he will be like going to one corner and starts sniffing, until he finds the scent and we just move the things that is covering the rat and when it comes out he will chase it and wont stop until he gets it!stepping and biting and all!its exciting and funny imagine a dog chasing rats?!we are screaming the whole time cheering him to find it!=))

we cant remember how it started though. Are dogs good at catching and killing mice?
Yes, some individuals and breeds (bred/used to kill vermin) are excellent 'mousers'. I have to be extremely careful, because our Dachshund would go after and kill our pet mice in a second. He's been raised with them since twelve weeks of age and on, but still won't adjust to them. In fact, he only becomes more eager as time go by. However, the other dogs (including sighthounds, one w/heavy field %26amp; coursing titled lines) are used to them. Although, we're careful with all the dogs, since all of the breeds are known for prey drive.

Edit: I'm going to try the Dach in 'Earthdog', because he's so obsessed.
Get a Rat Terrier. They can be easily trained to kill, but not eat the vermin.

A dachshund is an excellent dog as well. They were bread to go into badger holes, and kill the inhabitants. A mouse is small potatoes to them.
Some breeds are better than cats. Doxies and JR come to mind.
No, they're not. In fact, some dogs fear at the sight of mice.
Actually, my beagle once tracked down and caught a mouse. She did not kill it though. Just stood on its tail while looking at it rather perplexedly.

Anyway, try a rat terrier. They are one of the best at catching vermin. One rat terrier was once reported to have killed over 2,501 rats in a span of only seven hours in a rat-infested barn.
    They might be.
Some of them are very good at it. A lot of small terriers like Jack Russels, Rat Terriers and Toy Fox Terriers were bred pretty much for hunting vermin like mice.

If your dog DOES catch and kill a mouse, please don't let him eat it. The dog could get sick and if someone has poisoned the mouse it will poison the dog.
Some dogs are naturally talented for that sort of thing.

My terrier-mix has caught birds, mice, gophers-quick lil dude.

    *edit*

I just read the answer above me. I actually didn't know that about terriers. Guess my good ol' mutt really is a terrier (I've only been guessing) ;) heh
My female Great Pyrenees has caught a mole lol! We tend to get moles in our house early before winter starts and she'll get them. She lays in the kitchen and waits for them pretending she is asleep. If she see's one all she does is sit up promptly and slam her big front paw down on the little thing and knocks them stupid. Then I pick them up and put them outside across the street in the field lol.
    Yes.

My dog caught himself a nice huge rat about 6 weeks ago.

    He also catches birds.

Is there a snake that doesn eat mice?

liek crickets or something? Is there a snake that doesn eat mice?
Garter Snakes and Rough Green Snakes eat insectsIs there a snake that doesn eat mice?
You'd probably be looking at a garter snake then. They eat insects and fish no problems and they don't get very large, a few feet at most.

The only problem with them is they're pretty wild and don't like to be held. They're also very good at getting out of heir tank, I know the local PetCo always has a few on the loose whenever I go into the store because they slip out at feeding times or if someone didn't put the lid on the tank securely.
Ok so an Eastern Ribbon Snake .... and here is MS they sell some at my local pet shop. They are semi aquatic and stay small. Look at the link I posted.
Green snakes eat crickets, waxworms, mealworms

African egg eating snakes eat eggs only

Kingsnakes can eat other snakes, though in captives are only given mice
i wish there was, i wanted a snake, but i didnt want to feed it mice, so i got a frog and give it crickets
cobras eat other snakes. also, i heard black snakes in Arizona eat rattle snakes.
you can train your snake to eat raw chicken necks ( my friend did) just be careful not to make it too big, so as not to choke the snake, and remember to clean your hands thouroughly!!!
there's a type of snake that's jst too small to eat mice, so I think it eats bugs (or baby mice...). I think it's called the blind snake.
YES! the dimond back watersnake eats fish, the brownsnake eats worms, and the anaconda that eats pigs!
Garter snakes are small snakes they grow to be about 3 feet in length. They have no teeth and eat gold fish, crickets, and worms. Great snakes!!
snake swill eat anything but you can feed it other things like crickets or fish
no all snakes are carnivores so they have to eat mice or rats or something like that if your not OK with that then i would recommend to got a lizard and feed them crickets
garter snakes will eat fish and worms
i dont think so mostly all snakes eat rats
    Yes...Barack Obama.

hun get traps lots of uhm and spray your house really good stay at a friends house for 3 days and every day ceme back to spray.. Wrap ur house objects... Then when you come back get 2 cats.. the cats will ketch them and kill them.. And their goes your prblem :)
    hahaha

You probably shouldn't have asked this question in this category.
oobviously you need mouse traps. jesus christ why do people ask such stupid questions.
I have rat problems. I understand why you might not want to get normal rat traps because lots of people don't want to move a dead rat or mouse body. I hav a ton of these and they really work! But instead of using peanut butter use rat poison. Also if you don't have any pets you could spread rat poison throughout the place. Hope this helped and best of luck!

  • How many boxes of decon mouse poisen is needed to kill mice in attic?

Be careful, if the mice die in the attic it may smell up the house for a few days with a dead mouse smell. I recomend traps, that way you can get rid of the mouse after it dies. How many boxes of decon mouse poisen is needed to kill mice in attic?
A COUPLE OF BOXES WILL KILL QUITE A FEW MICE... BUT BE CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE PETS AROUND..WHEN THE MICE DIE FROM THE POISON, THERES A POSSIBLITY THAT A CAT OR DOG MAY FIND THE DEAD MOUSE AND EAT IT... THEY THEN TOO WILL BE POISENED...How many boxes of decon mouse poisen is needed to kill mice in attic?
last year I lost count after 100 of the little things, %26amp; I own a cat.

Why dont we milk mice and make cheese?

The government doesnt allow it.Why dont we milk mice and make cheese?
Because mice carry disease, for more than other animals. They caused Bubonic plague, they carry the hantaan virus. Mice are just icky! Why dont we milk mice and make cheese?
Why don't we milk you and make a President?
Because they won't stand still long enough.
milk maids don't come in that small of size!
Just think how many mice it would take to make an ounce of cheese.... doge are more effective.
Becuase that'd be gross? And make very small pieces of cheese...haha...I have no idea!
Because the labor involved doesn't make for any profit margin.

But feel free to knock yourself out.

Will brother and sister mice mate with each other?

Thanks you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Will brother and sister mice mate with each other?
Yes. Unlike humans animals don't have the sense of ';mother'; ';father'; ';sister'; or ';brother';. All they know is that there is another animal they can mate with, and mate they will. Will brother and sister mice mate with each other?
yes they will. i had pet mice when i was in high school. my mom and dad got me mice for a gift, and in about a years time i had 300 mice. so if you are not ging to sale or give them a way don't do it.
Animals always commit incest....they don't care if it's their mom, dad, brother, sister or cousin.
Yes they will mate, you should house them seperately.
yes- they don't recognize eachother as brother and sister.
Yes, animals are not picky about that stuff.
NONONO DONT DO THAT THE BABYS WILL BE DEFORMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes if those are mice from the deep south.
yes, definatley. Animals do not think about things like this. Make sure they are seperated right away , or at least they are fixed!

  • Why doesn't the the view box on AOE II stay still?

What is the best mice to breed?

what is the best mouse to breed? the regular mice, swiss websters, or ICR mouse? What is the best mice to breed?
they all are good choices theres no real diffents in the level of diffacaulty in breeding them

Do chemical carcinogens such as PAHs induce highly antigenic molecules when given to mammals such as mice?

It appears from the quote below that PAHs are metabolized very quickly in the body of mice, so PAHs must NOT induce highly antigenic molecules when given to mammals such as mice. But you be the judge, see the quote below and the source below for specifics.

Very little information is available on the immunological effects of other PAHs. Mice treated with high doses of dibenz[a,h]anthracene exhibited a reduced serum antibody level in response to antigenic

challenge by comparison to controls (Malmgren et al. 1952). The immunosuppressive effects of dibenz[a,h]anthracene were studied in AHH-inducible mice (C57BL/6) and AHH-noninducible mice (DBA/2N) by intraperitoneal and oral administration (Lubet et al. 1984). Immunosuppression occurred in both strains and was more pronounced in the C57BL/6 mice than in the DBA/2N mice, following

intraperitoneal administration. However, the DBA/2N mice were more susceptible to immunosuppression following oral administration. These results suggest that PAHs are rapidly metabolized and excreted following oral administration in AHH-inducible mice, whereas in AHH-noninducible mice, the PAHs are absorbed and distributed to target organs. Based on these results, the authors concluded that AHH inducibility plays an important role in the immunosuppressive

    activity of PAHs.

  • Can you feed mice rat food?

Hi im thinking of getting some mice and am wondering can you feed them rat food, like the pets at home stuff. Can you feed mice rat food?
I used to feed my rabbit guinea pig food all the time, vets and pet shops say that it could give them diseases and blahblahblah!

    Mine are still healthy :)

I don't know alot about mice and rats food...My rats are eating gerbil food right now...So I guess..Can you feed mice rat food?
Pets at home own brand is cheap crap, please dont feed it to anything! Not sure if its OK to feed mice rat food, they are very similar animals but mice are smaller so probably require a lot less protein. If you google and look at different online places you can probably buy mouse food. If anything hamster mix would probably be a better choice than rat food, or perhaps a mixture of hamster food and a vegetarian rat pellet such as Science Selective Rat. Mice will eat very little so its worth paying for the good stuff, they will live longer, healthier lives.
You can yes but I would check the analysis first. Mazuri for example has mouse/rat food but it is high in protein for rats so veggies are typically added to prevent itching. I'm not sure what a mouse needs.

    EDIT:

btw bluecow...and any other tard that may come here.

Mice became pets hundreds of years ago. In fact they were favored by many as pets. So go yell at your ancestors for domesticating them =]
Guinea pig food has too much Vit C in it for rabbits.

I feed both rats and hamsters/mice/gerbils Hunters farm shops Fancy rabbit mix, and its perfect for them. Pets at home stuff is awful. it gives then diareah even if they eat it constantly.
Yes.. you can! But if you want to get mice, I kinda suggest hamsters. Hamsters are MUCH nicer. But, do watcha want!
mine doe, and mice are exellent pets, mine eats cereal (non salted or sugered)
    Mice will eat ANYTHING.
I feed my mice rat food =]
mice are pests, however some brainy fag, managed to con the public into thinking that these little critters can be sold as 'Pets'

you can feed them anything and it wouldn't make a difference to their well being.

There are mice in my bedroom?

for 3 days in a row now, mice have been in my bedroom. it's really grossing me out and i've set traps with peanut butter, but they aren't taking the bait. they're obviously after food, %26amp; i've emptied my bin for any food scraps that might be in them, but the mouse/mice has chewed through my heat bag, which has wheat grains in it.

they're making a mess everywhere with their droppings and i don't want it to get onto my bed or something so how else can i get rid of them? There are mice in my bedroom?
Poison. Use D-con or some other mouse poison. There are mice in my bedroom?
Set the mouse trap with the wheat on peanut butter. Or put wheat in the middle of a sticky trap. Other than that, the only way to kill them is poison... but that is harmful to humans, babies, and other animals.
Hi ! Mice are slick and sometimes you have to be patient. But you can go to your local hardware store and get glue traps, ect. Good luck !
Try the granule poison that comes in small bags, place them in dark corners or were you think they are coming in to your room.
Mice, as well as rats can outsmart you...

A few years back I had a rat in my house...tried the glue traps.. and regular traps with different foods every night ( since they are most active at night when everything is quiet und there are no movements)

What a smart beast that was....stole the food without getting caught...

Got stuck on the glue trap a few times, but only with a leg or the tip of the tail....always got loose again..

Did that for nearly 3 weeks...

My son was at crawling age at the time, so I didn`t want to try the poison sticks right away, but after that amount of time....I just had to do it...

Put the stick out at night....next morning the the rat was laying dead in my living room...

Do boy mice eat there babies?

I have two female mice and we want to mate them. I read that boy mice are good fathers and they take care of them. but i am not sure.Do boy mice eat there babies?
Male mice do not eat their babies. The only thing you should remember is to separate the father and mother after any baby mice are born to prevent them breeding again right away. Sometimes, mothers will eat their babies if they die or if the mother is under extreme stress or feels threatened but this is not a common occurrence. Good luck and hope this helps...Do boy mice eat there babies?
Separate mother and father, so mum has privacy for the birth. Once the babies have hair, you can let them back together. But you must have enough room, meaning a big cage. Otherwise it might happen. Also remember that they will probably breed again. So how many mice do you want? Personally I would keep the boys separate, but the babies also grow and sexually mature quickly and can breed with mum and their sisters. Breeding mice is not a good idea. Too many!

Also keep a thought for the father, don't leave him all alone in a cage, have 1 cage with mum and the babies and one with 2 brothers, that way the father is not alone and mum has privacy. then in a few weeks you need to sex the babies and once they are weaned (when they can eat by themselves) separate the boys from the girls. Otherwise you will be drowning in mice, LOL. Watch out, it happens very quickly!!
Male mice may eat their babies. Sometimes they can, sometimes they don't. However, it's always best to separate them the day you come in and find baby mice on the bottom of the cage. Saying that, make sure you have a suitable cage for daddy too and, when the babies are older, either get a bigger cage for all the mice or make sure you have several cages to avoid over-crowding them.
They can, it is always wise to separate them..
i dont know about mice but male rats will eat their babies. :S
    yes,but others do not

    george warning lennie about her.

As long as you mentioned how lonely she was because of her husband, I sure you did fine. I chose Candy over Crooks but it was a good choice.

Don't worry, the poems are worth more than the book so it's not too important as long as the poems went well.

Anyway, it's too late now to worry.

Most experts frown on feeding mice. They are too fatty and pose an impaction risk. Not necessary from a nutritional standpoint.

no, i have never given my beardie a mouse...first of all, they are to fatty, second if the mouse is to big it can cause big problems with digestion, and if you are feeding live mice there is also a chance it (the mouse) can injur your beardie while he is trying to kill it!!! i am against giving beardies mice altogether, but to each his own i suppose!!!

i have to write a follow story of on the novella, Of Mice and Men, and it's suppose to be about how George met Lenny, why they travel together, etc. but i need to comeup with some disorder or something to explain Lenny's mental disability.

his symptoms were: mind of a child, but still a grown man. panics when scared, talks ';slow';, and has a very slow metal process, has difficulty remembering things.

so here's my question: what is a mental disability that might include those symptoms above?

Didn't george know lenny's aunt, weren't they related or raised together at one point? we discussed the book in class, and it sounded like he was autistic, try looking up a bit of that. there are so many different kinds of autism that you can't just slap down ';autistic'; on the paper, you have to explain what kind.Advice for writing a follow up on Of Mice and Men novella? 10pts!?
I think he has general brain problems and has the mental age of a young child.
He was mentally challenged George felt secure because Lenny would never leave as well as he felt soeey for him. He was a good companion and a good bodygaurd not to mention when they get their land and live off the fat of the land he could do a lot of work lol

    Good book and good luck
He was probably brain damaged from birth due to oxygen deprivitation (cord wrapped around his neck). He also could have had Downs syndrome or cretinism. Have fun! Post your story and provide the link!

Please help me - My cat keeps bringing dead mice & birds in the house - I freak out when I find them. Ideas?

Is there anything I can do at all to stop him from doing this? Please help me - My cat keeps bringing dead mice %26amp; birds in the house - I freak out when I find them. Ideas?
    First off you might want to understand why your cat is bringing you these ';gifts';

Returning with the spoils of the hunt is their way of proudly bringing back a gift to their guardian. Normally, cats see us as a parent figure, but when they present gifts of prey, they see us as their kittens. Accept the gift graciously and properly dispose of it. Big cats in the wild present prey to others in their den as a social gesture. Perhaps they prefer to share it in safety where chances of theft are slim.

Anyway all you have to do is put a collar with a bell on him if you havent already. Then when he is outside or after you have let him out, close the doors securley so he cant bring any dead rodents into the house. He may bring it into the garage and all you need to do then is throw it in the trees or bury it somewhere. There isnt really anthing else unless you trap him inside your house and dont let him out, which really is hard to do. You may also want to take him to the vet regularly...sometimes cats can contract different diseases from rodents. Hope this helps and good Luck!!!Please help me - My cat keeps bringing dead mice %26amp; birds in the house - I freak out when I find them. Ideas?
You could try moving %26amp; not telling it.
keep live mice in the house for it to catch
smack the cat so it wont do it again. show it why it is being smacked. harsh maybe but cats arent daft
Get your cat a collar with a bell on, this should reduce the success of his hunts by alerting the prey hehe. Also some cat flaps make it awkward for a cat to bring in prey. You could try finding the habitat of the mice and destroying it to stop them living near you
my mom lives out in the country she says they do this because its in there nature they bring them to you or so you can find them because they love you. although i think she is looney all i can say is board up the windows lmao try getting the cat toys keep its interest on something else. i really do nto think your cat will stop its in there nature grin and bare it and smile and say thanks kitty kitty
i have 3 cats and i feel the same way as you ! i find a bell on the collor helps as birds a mice here them coming and run a mile .

    good luck
That's what you should do then. Keep the cat inside the house.
Would you rather the cat brought in a chicken and roasted it for you or chopped up a cow into hamburgers

Sorry you got a cat and that goes with the turf... its no good having a go at your cat as it will only damager your relationship with your cat ans hurt and upseta and confuse her as the cat wont understand...

Cats can only think of food in terms of something dead...

its just you dont see what they do to the chicken or cow before you bring hoke burders and kfc to feed your family...

You cat loves you and wants to do its part for the house by thanking you for the food it brought ans wanting you to priase its prowess and be all cuddles and loving...

To a cat its like you feeding your baby...

Its what its job is and its sharing its food which most animlas would not like you share your food.

You can't stop it. Even the sweetest cat comes with this hard wored into its brain.

So you can't stop it and any attempt to will result in pet psyciatrists and damaging the relationship you have with your cat...

You can try and keep the cat inside then you have an unhappy imprisoned cat.
Your cat's natural instinct is to hunt. I agree you can't keep him in now that his has been an outside cat.

The best thing you can do is play with him (toy mouse etc), this will feel like hunting to him and will help satisfy his need to hunt.

Secondly, has something changed so that you are not spending as much time with him? New job, new social life etc? It could be his way of reminding you that he is still around and still loves you.
You should have had a lazy one like ours. I did read somewhere that when a cat returns with food it is contributing to its family or household, and if you scold it, the cat will assume its dead bird -- or whatever -- is not good enough and so go out and find a bigger one. Of course you cannot keep it in, cats love to roam especially at night. Even ours takes a short constitutional in the evening. A bell around its neck sounds the best idea so far.
its a nacheral thing u cant stop my cat dos it to its supost to be a sign of efection let it be free to do what cats do
dont feed your cat then they will have to eat it to survive
Don't let the cat go outside. Then it can't catch birds and mice.
If you are going to let your cat out...then he will continue to hunt and kill things. If you don't want him to do this than keep him indoors. Indoor cats do live longer, healthier lives. Also, you may not know this but cats are the cause of thousands of bird deaths per year. There have been recent studies that show cats are a major cause of the decline of many migratory species. You can do a search and see what I am talking about. It may help that he is keeping the pest population of mice and rats down, but a cat is not going to ONLY kill mice and stop killing birds. Also, an indoor cat will not end up getting poisoned, hit by a car, eaten by a predator, and picking up diseases from other animals.
I had a cat the delighted in bringing in birds and mice and anything else he could capture. I just started not letting him in when he had them.

Your best bet is to keep him indoors. I know a whole lot of people think this is cruel, but it is far less cruel than the cat getting hurt outside. I lost a few to the outdoors.

1 got hit by a car, 2 got into fights with wild animals, and one just disappeared.

Now we keep our cats indoors and give them plenty of things to 'hunt'
Sorry! Other than keeping him inside all the time(Which is probably a good idea, he'll live longer) you won't be able to stop this behavior. Cats are natural born hunters, and are going to hunt if they're allowed outside. He brings you his kills because he is trying to provide for you- he thinks you may need a snack. If he brings you partially live animals, he's trying to teach you to hunt. I would keep a small spade or shovel in the house to pick up his kills, and try not to freak out at your cat too much...He's only doing what comes naturally. And do please consider keeping him inside, he'll lead a longer and happier life!
He loves you and he's trying to provide for you. I realize these tasty treats don't look so tasty to you, but this is what happens when you're loved by a cat. Believe me, I know. You just have to learn to clean them up without throwing up. It's not easy sometimes.
Bless him! its their way of bringing you presents to show their affection for you!

My cat just grew out of it, if that helps.
They are gaving u a present - weird but true

Mine always does it - but I got used to it and I won't keep them in as they love it out the back, each morning they stand by the door waiting to go out.

I don't know why people say cats live longer if they stay inside - my friends cat was 14 and he was an outside cat, out all night every night - she had since he was a kitten. I know there are dangers outside to inside BUT there are dangers to US PEOPLE is well outside e.g. knocke by car, stabbed etc
kinda scary that there are that many mice and even birds IN your house. you might want to hire an exterminator
im sorry to tell you this but the only thing you can do to prevent this is bring the cat indoors permanently which expands their lifespan anyways and is much safer for them. but you should take this habit of your cat proudly. in the wild, many generations ago, cats brought dinner only to those who they most respected and loved. so just throw it in the garbage and ignore it but dont punish the cat
Yeah, best way is to change your outlook. The only way you stop that from happening is making him/her a inside cat.Otherwise see it as a favour your cat is trying to take care of you, by providing you with food. It is nature, outside cats will hunt. I wish mg inside cats would be all He better at mousing.
My cat keeps on bringing me in dead mice and birds trouble is it is what they do they are bringing in a present for you, i do tell my cats a bunch of flowers or chocolates would be nicer. What i do with my cats is buy then alot of toys mices etc and they like them and leave the real ones alone especially ones with cat nip in them good luck.
We have a cat flap that has a locking system on it, so we can stop the cat going out or we can stop the cat coming in or we can do both at the same time... we actually managed to stop the cat bringing in mice by locking the cat flap so the cat could not get in - this did not mean he was locked out though because he found a way of hooking the flap open so then he can get in but the effort required to get in means that he dropped his mice and wouldn't be able to bring them in - it worked a treat!
keep your cat indoors...do you realize all the diseases that mice and birds carry? and they are in your cats mouth??? your cat is going to get sick or run over by a car keep it in
sorry but your cat loves you and this is how they show it, thank your cat and then put its wee offering in the bin!
He thinks he's bringing you a gift. The only way to sop this happening is to not have a cat-flap, answer the door when he wants in and just check what he has in his mouth before you let him in.
As they get older they get bored of catching things and prefer to sleep all day and then meow for some tinned stuff (or annoy you till you get some tinned stuff - ie poking you).

We feed ours at two times, so that way he learns and also we have told him no over his life in a stern way. But cats tend to do as they want. Make sure he knows what the no is to.

Just set phrases for things such as food and out. I am sure mine knows what you mean by this.

Charlie fetches me to let him out so doesn't pee the floor.

    Is a two way interpretation...
No way to stop it, except to lock your cat out.

I get live birds frequently and have to do frantic rescuing.

Obviously your cat thinks you are an incompetent hunter

Maybe they are hinting they do not like the cat food you provide.

    Nature wins all the time
SHOOT the cat and get a dog !!!!!!!!!!
