Hello, i caught a baby field mouse in the chicken coupe. There were like 30 running everywhere and i caught one. it has fur, can open its eyes and run fast. I am trying to domesticate the little guy but i have to wonder. Howcan i prevent myself from getting some disease from it?Disease from domesticating field mice?
Unless you're in the Southwest where hantavirus is endemic, he's probably pretty safe. Might get fleas. May not be quite as young as you think. Field mice are pretty small as adults, a lot smaller than the house variety. But he's not likely to get too domestic. Wild species have highly developed hyperalertness that's been bred out of domesticated types.
