Why are elephants afraid of mice?

They also did a control, where they moved the dung that had no mouse under it. The elephant didn't react to the control.





Is it just a knee jerk reaction to a creature the elephants never before been exposed to? Or is just like when humans see a cockroach on the ground?Why are elephants afraid of mice?
I don't think a mouse would run up inside an elephant's trunk; it would smell and feel the breathing and know it was no place to go. It might run up the elephant's body, if the elephant was at rest, but not if the elephant is walking.


Now I've seen a lot of animals (not elephants particularly) that are careful of smaller animals. The elephant isn't a predator, and is intelligent and sensitive, so it might be that way.Why are elephants afraid of mice?
Despite what it looks like, this is a myth. Elephants are not afraid of mice.





What you don't know is that with their large ears, elephants can hear subsonic sounds. It's entirelly possible that subsonic sounds can be used to control elephant movements. This was done in the past at circuses. This way when a mouse is introduced, and sound is played at the same time, then the elephant will move and appear to be frightened of the mouse.
i think the elephant was confused at first; kind of like a quick ';WTF IS THAT?'; reaction.


cockroaches on the ground for me; i would of picked one up when people are screaming about them.
i heard that they aren't....i mean, i'm sure they're not liek their best friends or anything. They avoid them just b'c they're a nuisacne but they don't have this big fear of just mice themselves
Thats just like asking why are some people afraid of the dark or why I am afraid of mice.
They fear the mouse will run up their nose (trunk) which could suffocate them. They are taught that from birth.
mice crawl up there butts and hide walnuts in there and it irritates the elephants butt
I guess its 4 the same reason people do.
Because they might get into their trunk and they wouldn't be able to breathe.
I'm not sure it's true that elephants are afraid of mice. Never tested it on one. It could be a myth but if its true people say its because mice can crawl up their trunks...yeah, not too comfy :)

I didn't watch video but saw this on myth busters...unreal..these animals can stomp a human yet fear a mouse !!
