Do you think that George needed Lennie as much as Lennie needed George ?
And do you think that Curley's wife was not as debauched as all thought she was ? After all .. there was no love between the two .. and Curley neglected his duties as a husband .
Please let me know what you think .
Thanks .In John Steinbeck's ';Of Mice and Men'; why did George wasted his life travelling with Lennie?
George didn't ';waste his life';, Lennie was his brother and he had problems beyond his control. Family always stick together and he felt it was his obligation to take care of his brother. George prolly had a lifetime of protecting his brother therefore it was all he knew and that was just how their relationship was. As for Curley's wife, she was lonely and essentially imprisoned on this ranch with no other women to relate to, she was just looking for a friend and saw a kindness in Lennie. She obviously didn't get enough affection from Curley, and as for Lennie he truly didn't mean to hurt her, he didn't know his own strength and got scared when she started screaming. Lennie didn't understand a lot of things he was a simpleton, George was his guardian. After the incident George knew his choices were limited; run or get caught and watch people persecute Lennie and eventually kill him. It boiled down to the heartbreaking decision of saving his brother from a world that refused to understand him.In John Steinbeck's ';Of Mice and Men'; why did George wasted his life travelling with Lennie?
George needed an audience. Honestly, how long could have George gotten away with talking about his future dream with ';normal'; people? Lenny gave him a pal, a chorus to his dreams, and a follower to make George a leader.
Suddenly, it's ok for a wife to cheat on her husband? If she was so upset, she could have left, instead of teasing most of the men and sleeping with some. She enjoyed a pretty good life compared to most as Curly's wife, part of that is fidelity.
george made a promise to lenny's aunt or mother that he will take care of him.
i do think george needed lenny. lenny helped keep the dream and hope alive of owning their own piece of land one day. it gave him motivation to keep working. lenny also showed the more sensitive side of george's rough edge self. by taking care of lenny, revealed george's sensitive side.
curly's wife was and always going to be a whore. curly knew she was a ';loose'; woman. that is the reason why he tried to keep her cooped up in the house. love and his marriage to her were totally different for him. her prettiness was probably like a trophy for him. but as he realized by finally seeing how willing she was to sleep with lenny, she was everybody's trophy. he was merely embarrassed by her actions. it was sort of an insult to him and his manhood, she would sleep with a ';retarded'; man.
